No more smelly towels!

Lately my bath towels have been sorta stinky. They smell fine coming out of the dryer but once they get wet after a shower, they have a gross smell to them. I'm assuming it's from being left in the washer too long at some point or left in a ball on the bathroom floor too long. The smell was gross and I couldn't take it any longer. I just wanted clean, fresh smelling towels! Is that too much to ask?

Yesterday, I decided to try running white vinegar in with them to see if it would help. I have a front loader and just put the vinegar in the bleach dispenser since I have no idea where else I could put it. Guess what? No more smelly towels! My towels now smell so much fresher and they seem softer and fluffier too! I'm so excited to have nice non-smelling towels now. You wouldn't think this would make a girl happy...but it does! I thought I'd share since summer is coming and I'm sure there will be lots of beach towels left in a ball too long! ;)

That's what works for me today....get some more tips at We Are THAT Family!

Great idea! White vinegar is a great odor remover. I tried baking soda once and it didn't do anything.

Thanks for the tip! I wonder if it would work on my husbands running clothes? I am going to give it a try.

I actually use white vinegar instead of fabric softener in all my laundry! Love it!

Vinegar? I NEVER would have guessed that! And I'm having this SAME problem with our towels. Thank you!! (I'm actually bummed that our "main" towels are in the dryer - now I have to wait to try this out!)

I use vinegar in all the rinse cycles of my wash (except when I use bleach) and have for many years. Not only does it cut smells but also cuts the soap and softens the fabrics.

Yes, I read online where this is a common prob. with front loaders. Mine is also He, but opens at top. I have had both this prob and spotting on clothes.

Found that fab softener is a no-no and these washers can have build up with mold or whatever within.

YUCK! I love the whole using vinegar green thing, so I add it to my fab softener dispenser too. WFM!!

I so glad I found you because I have neglected to do so at times and noticed the smell again. Once I added the vin, I was thinking maybe that was the difference.

Your post confirmed that for me.

Yay! Vinegar is so cheap and useful. Now, if I can only figure out how to remove stains from my oil rubbed bronze faucets??

Have a great weekend!

I like the vinegar idea better than the bleach I usually use. Bleach works, but I'm always a little leery of using it on ALL the towels (kitchen included).

wow, great tip! I always forget about the vinegar, it is such a multi-purpose product. Never thought about adding it to towels to freshen them up. Will try it out this weekend!
Thanks!
